Debido a la situación que vivimos actualmente, muchos eventos han tenido que ser cancelados, entre ellos la MET Gala que se iba a llevar a cabo el lunes 4 de mayo de este año y aún no se ha dado a conocer la nueva fecha del evento.
La MET Gala es uno de los eventos más importantes de la industria de la moda que se llevan a cabo durante el año y debido a que el museo Metropolitano de Arte, mejor conocido como el MET de Nueva York, decidió cerrar sus puertas el viernes 13 de abril, este año no sabemos qué pasará.
La fiesta organizada es la gala más increíble e importante del año, y la red carpet genera miles de dólares para el Costume Design Institute.
OJO: No cualquier persona puede asistir al evento, y la lista solo se revela en la víspera de la gala. Si no estás invitado, pero quieres ir, el costo de un boleto es de $35,000 dólares y las mesas están entre 200,000 y 300,000 dólares.
Entre la lista de celebridades que han asistido al evento se encuentran Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Harry Styles, Zendaya, Lady Gaga (co anfitriona en el 2019), Kim Kardashian, Jared Leto, entre otros.
Y algunos de los diseñadores llegan con sus musas como Marc Jacobs y Kate Moss, Nicolás Ghesquiere con Emma Stone, Riccardo Tisci y Madonna, Brandon Maxwell con Lady Gaga y así sigue la lista.
Por más de dos décadas la anfitriona ha sido Anna Wintour, la directora de Condé Nast, y este año, los co anfitriones serán, Nicolás Ghesquiere (diseñador creativo de la línea de ropa femenina de Louis Vuitton), la actriz Emma Stone (musa de Ghesquiere), Meryl Streep y Lin-Manuel Miranda.
El tema para la MET Gala del 2020 es “About Time: Fashion and duration” y el patrocinador oficial será Louis Vuitton junto con Condé Nast.
About Time: Fashion and duration fue inspirada en la película “Orlando” de Sally Potter en 1992, basada en la novela de Virginia Woolf.
Andrew Bolton, curador del Costume Institute, en una entrevista cuenta que en la película hay una escena en la que Tilda Swinton entra a un laberinto en una bata francesa del siglo XVIII y conforme va corriendo, su ropa cambia a un vestido de mitades del siglo XIX y conforme sigue corriendo termina en Inglaterra en 1850 y ahí fue donde surgió la idea de esta temática.
Lo que Bolton quiere lograr, es que cambiemos nuestra manera de pensar sobre la historia de la moda y nos re imaginemos cómo vemos el trayecto de esta línea del tiempo en torno a la moda y para esto la exposición se va a dividir en 160 prendas de mujer que serán acomodadas en dos secciones o líneas del tiempo.
La primera sección serán looks totalmente negros, una cronología de moda desde 1870 hasta 2020, una escala del tiempo hasta la modernidad.
La segunda sección tendrá en su mayoría looks blancos, pero algunos tendrán un “toque de color”, será interpretada como saltos en el tiempo.

En los años anteriores, el Costume Institute ha explorado diferentes temas sobre como la relación entre la fe y la moda con “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, el papel de la tecnología en la moda con el tema “Fashion In An Age Of Technology”, también rindió homenaje a Rei Kawakubo con Comme des Garçons y en el 2019 el tema fue “Camp: Notes on fashion”, una reinterpretación del ensayo de 1964 de Susan Sontag, ese ha sido mi favorito.
Es un ensayo bastante complicado de entender ya que en el ensayo te dice qué sí es camp y qué no y en base a cómo lo veas puede ser camp o puede no ser pero en resumen se puede describir como una sensibilidad marcada en el exceso y un mal gusto. En este artículo se los explico a profundidad.
En la exposición de Camp había piezas de Moschino, Dior, Thom Browne, Rodarte, entre otros. Y la interpretación en la alfombra roja fue una locura. Lady Gaga y sus cuatro looks de Brandon Maxwell, Billy Porter que llegó cargado por seis personas, Jared Leto en Gucci, cargando una escultura de su cabeza, Ezra Miller en Burberry y sus siete ojos y Zendaya en Tommy Hilfiger que parecía Cenicienta fueron algunos de mis favoritos.
Siento que es la exposición que más me ha enseñado ya que la estudié de principio a fin y toda la historia que tiene detrás es increíble.
Así como Alessandro Michele director creativo Gucci, Harry Styles y la mismísima Lady Gaga que el año pasado en Camp: Notes on fashion sus cuatro looks que usó fueron mis favoritos acompañada de Brandon Maxwell el diseñador de todo lo que usó.
Lady Gaga fue co anfitriona como antes lo había mencionado en la Met Gala del año pasado, cuando llegó a la Gala traía un vestido totalmente fucsia con capa, mangas XL, súper falda y venía acompañada del diseñador Brandon Maxwell, pero después cuando llegó a las escaleras su vestido se convirtió en strapless con falda inmensa color negro con una sombrilla, y quitándose más capas después del vestido negro cambió a otro vestido fucsia muy pegado que la hacía parecer barbie y después de eso terminó en ropa interior con zapatos de plataforma, logrando un look y teatralidad completamente único.
Es una lástima que la Met Gala de este año se haya cancelado y esperemos que en otoño de 2020 se pueda llevar a cabo siendo una oportunidad para los diseñadores de lucirse y además su momento estrella ya que si su diseño se hace viral por medio de una fotografía en redes sociales estarán en boca de todos.
Así como las celebraciones de los 150 años del museo esperemos se puedan llevar a cabo con sus múltiples eventos y exposiciones que tenían planeadas.

Met Gala 2020

About Time: Fashion and duration was inspired by Sally Potter’s 1992 movie “Orlando”, based on the novel by Virginia Woolf.
Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute, in an interview says that in the film there is a scene in which Tilda Swinton enters a maze in an 18th century French dressing gown and as she runs, her clothes continue to change and now she is wearing a dress of mid 19th century and as she continues to run, she stops in England in 1850 and that is where the idea of this theme arose.
What Bolton wants from us with this exhibition is that we change our way of thinking about fashion history and re-imagine how we see the path of this timeline around fashion. This the exhibition is going to be divided into 160 pieces of womenswear that will be accommodated in two sections or timelines.
The first section will be about total black looks, a fashion chronology from 1870 to 2020, a time scale to modernity.
The second section will have mostly white looks, but some will have a “pop of color”, it will be interpreted as jumps in time.

In previous years, the Costume Institute explored different topics, such as the relationship between faith and fashion with “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, the role of technology in fashion with the theme “Fashion In An Age Of Technology “, they also paid tribute to Rei Kawakubo with Comme des Garçons and in 2019 the theme was “Camp: Notes on fashion”, a reinterpretation of Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay, that has been my favorite.
It is a very complicated essay to understand since it tells you what camp is and what it is not and based on how you see it, it may be camp or it may not be, but to be more “precise” camp can be described as a marked sensitivity in excess and a tastelessness. In the exhibition of Camp there were pieces by Moschino, Dior, Thom Browne, Rodarte, among others. And the performance on the red carpet was crazy.
Lady Gaga wearing four looks by Brandon Maxwell, Billy Porter who arrived carried by six men, Jared Leto in Gucci, with a sculpture of his head, Ezra Miller wearing Burberry and his seven eyes, and last but not least Zendaya in Tommy Hilfiger who looked like Cinderella were some of my favourites.
I feel that it is the exhibition that has taught me the most since I studied it from top to bottom and all the history behind is amazing.
Lady Gaga last year in Camp: Notes on fashion with her four looks she wore accompanied by Brandon Maxwell the designer were OMG!
When she arrived at the Gala she was wearing a totally fuchsia dress with a cape, XL sleeves, super skirt and arrived with the designer Brandon Maxwell, but later when she was at stairs her dress was now strapless with a huge black skirt and she was carrying and umbrella, but taking off more layers after the black dress she changed to another very tight fuchsia dress that made her look like a barbie and after that she ended up in underwear with platform shoes, achieving a completely unique look and theatricality (VERY LADY GAGA).
It is a pity that this year’s Met Gala has been canceled and we hope that in the autumn of 2020 it can be carried out as an opportunity for designers to show off and also their star moment since if their design goes viral through a Photography on social networks will be on everyone’s lips.
As well as the celebrations of the 150 years of the museum we hope they can be carried out with its multiple events and exhibitions that they had planned.
