Últimamente en muchas partes veo que nombran a Iris Apfel y un día en una de mis pocas tardes libres se me antojó ver algo en Netflix y buscando qué ver, encontré un documental de la vida de Iris. Me llamó la atención por que como ya había visto en muchos lugares que hablaban de ella y yo no tenía idea de porqué decidí ver el documental y esto aprendí…

No se considera una persona guapa, pero sí con estilo. A sus 84 años fue cuando apareció en el mundo de la moda; hizo una exposición en el MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art) en Nueva York y la nombraron Rara Avis. En esa colección se podían ver más de 80 trajes de su colección de moda con piezas de diferentes diseñadores.

En una entrevista de “El País” cuenta algo que me encantó; dijo que ella es una niña de La Gran Depresión, así que en ese entonces nadie tenía mucho dinero, así que debías de saber cómo gastarlo bien; y como su mamá trabajaba desde que tenía 11 años, ella se compraba su propia ropa.

La mejor historia que cuenta es la de Pascua, dijo que su mamá le dio 25 dólares y le dijo que tenía que ir a buscar algo ella sola. Al llegar a la tienda se enamoró de un vestido pero recordó que su mamá le decía que debía comparar y no comprar lo primero que viera para asegurarse de su valor, se fue a la calle 34 y vio la diferencia de precios y decidió regresar por él.
Pagó 12.95 por el vestido junto con un sobrero de 3 dólares y saliendo fue a una tienda de zapatos y cuenta que el dueño se convirtió en su cliente años después y su hijo en un gran diseñador, Stuart Weitzman.

Su manera de disfrutar la moda es increíble, porque mezcla cosas de marca con cosas que encontró en un mercado y diferentes cosas que va coleccionando y recolectando en sus viajes. Cuando iba a Fashion Week después de los shows se iba a las tiendas y preguntaba qué era lo que ya no les servía y lo compraba, así tenía lo que le gustaba y pagaba un precio menor.
Recientemente hizo una colaboración con la marca TANE, una colección que está compuesta por accesorios de madera y de plata.
Me encanta su manera de apreciar sus viajes por el mundo, cuando cuenta a El País que “Vivir es la mejor inspiración.” Porque esta te llega de las personas, libro, museos, canciones, o el simple hecho de caminar por la calle.
Estilo para ella es que sea algo tuyo, tienes que estudiarte a ti mismo, saber quién eres qué te gusta y qué no, con qué t sientes cómodo y cómo es que la gente reacciona con lo que usas.

The best memory she tells is when it was going to be Easter, her mother gave her 25 dollars and told her to go and buy something. She went to a store, saw a dress and fell in love with it but she remembered her mother told her to compare an item with another before buying it so she could be sure it was worth it so she went to 34th street and saw the difference of prices so she came back to the store and bought it.
She paid $12.95 for the dress and a hat of $3 and next to that store she bought a pair of shoes, she said the owner later became her client and his son a famous designer, Stuart Weitzman.

Her way of enjoying fashion is amazing, because she mixes expensive and non-expensive items and creates a look that is fashionable and original. Recently she collaborated with the brand TANE, composed by accessories of wood and silver.
